JAMB Will Announce Candidates’ Admission Status this Week

Latest information reaching our news desk today, is
that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) council, has assured all candidates, who sat
for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination,
that they would know their admission status this
week. (25th – 31st of August 2014)
This information was relayed by the JAMB official
Registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, who did
disclosed this to news men in Lagos, the registrar
also went further to urged all candidates to check the
jamb official portal, starting from this week (25th),
where they will be able confirm their proper
placement in the nation’s tertiary institutions.
Professor Dibu also commented on the sidelines of
the opening ceremony of the of a three-day Technical
Committee Meeting on 2014 Admissions to Tertiary
Institutions at the University of Lagos.
The Jamb registrar also said that no fewer than
700,000 (Seven hundred thousand) candidates would
secure admission to the nation’s tertiary institutions
for the 2014/2015 academic session.
It’s also important, that all applying candidates
should note that a total of 1.6m candidates sat for the
UTME examination, which comprises of the
following:
The Paper-Pencil Test,
Dual Based test,
Computer-Based Test
On April and May.
HE also shared the good news, that the National
Universities Commission, National Board for
Technical Education and the National Commission of
Colleges of Education have this year increased the
carrying capacity of the schools under their
superintendence, which means that more candidates
will be admitted than the previous years.
Professor Dibu Ojerinde also added that the early
conclusion of the exercise, especially the cut off
marks for candidates’ first-choice universities, would
also prepare the council board to make admission
provisions for other candidates in their respective
schools of second choice.
He went further to disclose that there is no
gainsaying the fact that the challenge of the rising
demand for access to tertiary institutions in Nigeria
means that the entry process must be well-managed
and seamless by the board and every concerned
body.
Due to this reason, the Board is expecting every
academic institution in Nigeria, to abide by the
admissions timetable as already agreed upon at the
Policy Meeting, which was held on the 1st of July,
2014.
Here’s his official statement regarding this:
“All academic institutions in Nigeria must adhere
strictly to the guidelines which stipulates the
following:
60:40 Science/arts ratio,
45,35,20 of Federal ratio,
70:30 of Technology/non-Technology ratio,
While the ratio of 40:40:20 (merit/catchment area/
educationally less developed area) for state owned
institutions.
He further disclosed this as a reminder, saying that it
has also become imperative for him to stress once
more, that all admissions for the 2014/2015 academic
session will end on Friday, the 31st of October 2014.
He advices all academic institutions in Nigeria, to
adhere to the stipulated date, saying that the board
will not entertain late submissions.
