The self-styled ‘Chief Butcher’ of Boko Haram, Mohammed Zakari, said he has
slaughtered five persons since he joined the deadly sect in 2012.
The Police however alleged that he had participated in the slaughter of seven
people, including women and children.
Looking unkempt with tangled beard, Zakari, 30, said it took him two minutes
to slaughter a person while the duty of other members of his gang was to tie
their victims.
The terror suspect who said this in an interview with newsmen at a Police
detention facility in Abuja on Wednesday, confessed that he belonged to a
five-man gang which specialised in “slaughtering human beings whenever we
get one.”
The suspect, who spoke through an interpreter, named other members of the
slaughtering team to include, Hassan, Garba, Mohammed and Isa all of whom
are still at large.
He said, “My real name is Mohammed Zakari, I am also known as Hardu. I am
30 years old, I hail from Bauchi.
“My duty is to slaughter human beings; the duty of the others is to tie the
victims whenever we get one.
“I have slaughtered five persons, it takes me only two minute to slaughter a
victim after being tied by other members of the gang.”
The Police said Zakari who was arrested while fleeing Balmo Forest in Bauchi
State, on July 12, 2014, was still undergoing interrogation and providing
information that could assist investigators in their efforts to arrest other
operatives of the deadly sect.
Zakari was shown to select journalists by the Police Public Relations Officer,
Frank Mba, following a media report that he might have escaped from
custody.
Mba said, “For the past few days, there has been very strong rumour that the
suspect, Zakari, had escaped from custody.
“It is primarily in response to that, that we have decided to bring the suspect
out to interact with you, newsmen.
“This is in the best culture of transparency of policing operations; you have
seen him for yourselves.
“There is no gainsaying now that the suspect who has been alleged to have
escaped is in our facility.”
