Freedom of religion is very important, especially when where are so many religions from which you can choose.
Now we can believe almost in anything: in Jedi, Google, Ed Wood or flying spaghettis…
1. The Church of Euthanasia
This weird religion appeared in Boston, Massachusetts area of the United States. The main slogan of this church sounds something like this: “Save the Planet, Kill Yourself””. According to this church’s it is educational foundation devoted to restoring balance between Humans and the remaining species on Earth.
One of the most important commandments is not to procreate. Sodomy is very usual thing in this religion – any sexual act is good if it is not intended to procreate. Further asserts four principal pillars: suicide, abortion and cannibalism. By the way cannibalism is strictly limited to consumption of the already dead. It is not surprising that this church have many conflicts with Pro-life Christian activists.
2. The Church of Google
This church rejects supernatural gods because they are not scientifically provable. They truly believe that there is much more evidence in favor of Google’s divinity than there is for the divinity of other more traditional gods. The justify Google’s divinity on these facts: Google existence can be scientifically verified, Google is everywhere at once, Google answers prayers, and it is potentially immortal and infinite. Also, Google remembers all and can “do no evil”. It is obvious that it is hard to deny the existence of this religion but another question is – how much divinity is there?
3. Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monsters
Everything started from the Flying Spaghetti Monster. In cooperation with pirates he brought the good on the Earth. It sounds like limited budged science fiction movie script. But it isn’t. It is a real religion. Despite the fact that this religion seems similar to a joke and the fact that the believers of this religion admit that it has many satire elements, this religion is officially registered. They believe that today’s moral crisis started from the decreasing number of pirates, who are not evil. This church accepts the same sex people marriages, gay and lesbians are elected because the Monster of flying Spaghetti touched them with his macaroni. This religion is open to everyone; they waiting for all those who were touched by macaroni and those who didn’t experience this honor.
4. Apatheism
This belief is similar to atheism because these people believe that God doesn’t exist. However there’s one big difference. While atheists would believe in God if he ever appeared, these people clearly state that even if Jesus, Mohammad or another God visited their home they wouldn’t care. These people just don’t need any God at all. It turns out that belief in nothings is also the religion.
5. Jediism – The Jedi Religion
Little did George Lucas realize what he was starting with his “Star Wars” movies. Adherents or the “real world” Jedis believe the Force actually exists. According to the Star Wars mythology, the Force is the energy that holds the Universe together and flows through every material thing. Jedis believe that they can control and use the Force, and that they are bounded by a code of morality and justice.
6. The Oneida Community
The most interesting or maybe I should say most comfortable thing about this community is that they are all married to each other. So everyone can have sexual intercourse with anyone, because, according to them, that’s the way of achieving higher spiritual merit. The Oneida Community was found back in 1848 in Oneida, New York. They believed that Jesus returned on Earth in the year 70. It is curious that happened when Jesus didn’t come out? Did they still wait for him and enjoy free sexual life in order to achieve higher spiritual merit?
